Dana Daskalova is a hypnotherapist. She opened her practice in May with no audience.
She wrote one post in a Facebook group she was already part of. It brought in 240+ email subscribers, and four booked calls before her event had even happened.
What stood out
1. She didn’t build an audience. She found the room. The group had 27,000 members, and her future clients were already in it, asking questions and describing their problems in their own words. Dana didn’t need followers. She needed to show up where the conversation was already happening and speak its language. Most coaches spend months growing a feed when the room already exists.
2. Small asks beat big ones. Dana admits that her old instinct was to write “DM me if you need help.” It sounds generous. To a stranger, though, a DM is a big ask: it means admitting a problem to someone they don’t know yet. Dana calls it a trust gap. Her post asked for something much smaller, and the comments poured in. The bigger the jump you ask someone to make, the fewer people make it.
3. The email she never sent. Dana once found the exact course she’d been looking for. To join, you had to email the organiser. She fully intended to. She never did, and soon forgot the course existed. She wasn’t uninterested. One extra step stood between wanting it and doing it, and life got in the way. Your prospects are no different: every step between “this is me” and “yes” loses people.
4. The feed is a crowd. The inbox is a conversation. Of 27,000 group members, about 300 commented. On the feed, Dana was competing with everything else in those people’s day. Once they joined her list, she wasn’t. In her words: “I’m in the inbox. I’m not competing for anyone’s attention on the feed.”
5. The next step was always one click away. Four people booked calls before the event even started. They didn’t wait to be sold to; the option to book was simply visible at every stage, so the people who were ready didn’t have to hunt for it.
Use this week
List the groups and communities you already belong to. Where do your future clients ask questions and complain? That’s your room. Before you post anything, notice the words they use.
Dana’s back soon with the results from the event itself.
